How do you cook Australian marron?

How do you cook Marron in boiling water?

Bring a very large saucepan of water to the boil, then add salt and stir well. Add marron or yabbies and fennel fronds and cook for 2 minutes (depending on size) or until meat is just cooked. (Test by twisting off the head.) When cooked, remove from water and cool slightly.

Can you freeze raw Marron?

Marron can be stored in the freezer however they taste best when they are eaten shortly after they are caught. If you choose to freeze your marron, they should be frozen raw and in their shell. Wrapping them in plastic wrap can help protect them from freezer burn.

What is the difference between yabbies and marron?

Yabbies are much smaller than marron ? very few yabbies grow to 130 mm in length. Yabbies can range from a beige or coffee colour to almost black. They can also take on a blue colour when held in aquariums for a long time.

Does Marron taste like lobster?

Marron taste similar to western rock lobster, but they are sweeter and in my opinion far nicer.

How do you store fresh marron?

Place in a covered container, with ventilation holes in the top and wet butcher’s paper or cloth in the bottom and keep in the coolest part of the house (below 20ÂșC) for up to 2 days, keeping the paper or cloth wet. Wrap dead Marron in plastic wrap or place in an airtight container.

Are Marron good for you?

As with all crustaceans, which is the classification the marron falls into, they are high in Omega 3 fatty acids. More importantly they are plentiful in good mono and poly unsaturated fats, they are high in protein and have beneficial minerals such as zinc, copper, iron and magnesium.

What do marron taste like?

The flavour of Australian Marron is quite subtle, slightly sweet with nutty overtones and a firm consistency. Regardless of size, marron are one of very few animals that retain the same delicate taste and texture.
